You’re invited to the exhibition opening of Threads: Healing the Growing Pains of Girlhood
An exhibition By Pontsho Kemba & Rachel Ngeitokondjo Sakeus
Threads brings together painter Pontsho Kemba and photographer/mixed media artist Rachel Ngeitokondjo Sakeus in a tender dialogue on the complexities of girlhood and becoming. Through soft yet powerful visual language, the exhibition explores identity, memory, queer belonging, and the uneven terrain of healing.
Kemba, known for her oil paintings, turns to pencil and crayon to reflect on Black girlhood with intimacy and defiance, her childlike illustrations challenge romanticized femininity while embracing care and emotional depth. In response, Sakeus documents her own journey as a queer Oshiwambo woman through layered photographs and collages, blending archival material and personal symbolism to trace healing, spirituality, and selfhood.
Together, they unravel the emotional threads of growing up; honoring the beauty, confusion, and transformation of girlhood. Healing here is nonlinear; it loops, knots, and holds space for return.
